We had a fun filled December with our children and families at Hunter Street. While we missed our Director Kym who was off having fun overseas, we brought a little bit of overseas to us by exploring different Christmas Traditional meals each week.

The children got really hands on this month, baking almost every other day and decorating their Christmas own cookies. Getting hands on helps us teach children where their food is coming from and how it can impact their overall health. We didn't forget Santa Clause, his reindeer or helpers either, preparing treats for each child to leave out on Christmas Eve.

The children showed their creative sides this month through various Christmas crafts and some tinkering, each participating in some gift creations to pass onto their families and friends. A Big thank you to our wonderful families who spoiled our staff this past holiday season, we feel incredibly blessed and we love hearing how we impact your family and influence your children. We look forward to starting the new year with everyone and welcoming some new families and faces to our centre. Keep checking here to hear about all the many wonderful things to come!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Christmas exploded into Creative Childcare Kotara on the 1st December, our toddlers helped to make a start on decorating the tree and we made a new friend in Pudding our cheeky elf sent all the way from the north pole.
Pudding has been causing some mischief in our centre over December and the children are thoroughly enjoying it!
The educators have worked really hard to decorate the centre, working with the children to create artwork and gifts for their families too.

Here at Kotara we have also been collecting gifts for Hunter woman's centre a huge thank-you to everyone who donated a gift it will really help to brighten someones Christmas.
In other news our Christmas party was fantastic we moved to a larger venue to accommodate all our families safely. It was really wonderful to see our families come together with our staff to celebrate we all danced the evening away even Santa popped into say hello!

Our Pre-school leavers graduated and we wish them the best of luck at school next year.

We are looking forward to welcoming our families back in the new year and welcoming new families to our service.

November has been another busy month for us here at Kotara, our educators took part in a recycling challenge for National recycling week. Each room worked on a project with the children using recycled items from around the centre.
Our nursery 1 made a sensory path for the babies to explore promoting them to explore with their senses focusing on touch ,site and sound.
Nursery 2 Created musical instruments using tins for drums and bottles to create shakers with natural objects inside.
Our toddlers recycled old paper to make new and our pre-school room created a masterpiece reusing lids from different containers and bottles.
We also had Purple day this month to recognize and raise awareness for pancreatic cancer a cause close to our hearts. Thank-you to everyone who participated and made a donation.

Did you know that here at Kotara we have a Scholastic program? Take a look at our parent library for a magazine or sign up to the Loop and shop online. The order deadline for this magazine is December 1st any books you buy will help us collect reward points to buy books for the centre.

Hi there everyone, we hope you have recovered from the candy induced sugar high your family probably experienced over Halloween and the week following.

To kick of November Hunter Street participated in Movember, raising money and awareness for Men's Health. Our friends helped bake some chocolate cupcakes and together we donated $65.
Mid month was a flurry of activity as the centre got in the holiday spirit, coming together as a community and having our Family Christmas Party! We held a disco and had an awesome visit from Santa Claus. We also held some raffles which enabled us to contribute $80 to our centre’s Christmas Gift Voucher Appeal, and give back to our community. After filling our bellies at the Christmas party we quickly got ourselves picture perfect for our first round of School Photos, which turned out amazing! If you loved them and want to order more photos just let us know!
In the Kitchen we've begun implementing some more interactive meals trying out our first DIY pizza day, encouraging the children to be more active and develop a further understanding of what we put into our bodies. We look forward to our Sushi week which should be an interesting one.
Lastly we said see you later to our Director Kym who is off for a few weeks exploring Vietnam and relaying back some awesome cultural experiences. We look forward to seeing her back in December. At the end of the month we got really into the spirit of cars, making race tracks of our own to coincide with Newcastle’s first annual V8 supercars weekend.

Check back again in December to see some of our wonderful Christmas craft and family inspired traditional holiday meals!

What a busy month we had in October.
We welcomed new children and some wonderful new educators too our team.
During October we went through our Assessment and Rating with the Education Department, our team did a wonderful job of showing the department the fantastic relationships our educators have with the families and children.
Our babies have been exploring shapes and colour while making a special pictures for their friend who has had sometime off sick. Working together to create the artwork helping the children engage and feel part of a group building on their social development.

Our preschool room have been enjoying group experiences, also working on social interactions engaging with one another verbally and through music. Getting to know our new educators and continuing to build on relationships already formed with each other.

Toddlers got busy with our recycled cable reels. Using their imagination and creativity they practiced rolling them down the hill to each other creating their own game. Using their developing gross motor skills and social development skills, they had great fun.

Nursery two have also been developing social skills with group experiences, using their senses to discover what's inside the special natural basket, and participating in large group art experiences building on their relationships with their peers and educators.

In other news we have set up a Parent Library in our reception area this has information from our local community and useful information on any changes and updates on children's health and well being guidelines.

During the month of November here at Kotara we will be welcoming some more new team members to out ever growing centre and taking part in recycling week creating lots of fun experiences for the children teaching them about the importance of recycling and working with lots of natural resources.
With Christmas fast approaching watch this space for fun filled experiences for all the family.

October came and went very quickly on Hunter street. We had a few changes and got ourselves organised for next years enrollments. We also added to our team, welcoming some new staff members in the nursery and preschool sections of the centre. We saw some awesome community contributions this month with having Henny Penny Hatching come to our centre where our friends got to witness and participate in the developmental cycle of chicks. We also had an awesome visit from our local fire men, who taught us about fire safety and gave us a tour of their awesome fire engine. We’ve got some other community incursions in the works such as police officer and K9 visits. We found ourselves covered in Bandanas by the end of the month, with all bandana purchase proceeds going to support the Kids with Cancer Foundation. Big thank you to everyone who donated to an amazing cause we managed to raise 185.00 dollars! Great Job! Lastly, we got into the spirit of Halloween setting out some decorations to welcome some spooky friends in a fun filled end to a busy month. Check back here at the end of November to see some crazy photos of our Dinovember Adventures, Dinovember, the month where Dinosaurs come to life!

Our September began with a delicious start with our Fathers Day BBQ lunch, and unfolded with a continuing sense of creativity, adding not just many new children and families to our centre but new team-members as well. With these new additions came new ideas, inspiration, shared vision and aspirations, pushing us further down the path we hope to travel.
Our ideas came in the form of how we could become more self-sustainable, recycle and up-cycle things that we no longer use and find new purpose and discover new ways of approaching and doings things. Our children planted more seeds in the garden, broadening the scope of what we hope to grow. It challenged us as educators to think about how we can bring the outdoors in and in turn the indoors outside, allowing for a more continuous play experience for all of the children in our care.
Educators began making plans for how we can support others in our community and encourage the community to in turn support us and the children within the centre. We became a part of the Nappy Collective and are currently asking families to donate what they have not used so that we can support those families who at times have to go without.
We have begun exploring different ways we can include families in the day to day activities of their children through concepts such as a "public library"operating in our front foyer area and an obstacle-a-thon. We have also been looking at finding ways to get the children out of the centre and active in the Newcastle community, be it threw city walks, starting a community garden, visiting the museum or a local grocery store. September has definitely been a time for thought, planning and preparation for all of the amazing adventures our Hunter St centre will embark on.
Lastly keep an eye out for our logo in the local community as you will see it pop up in the most wonderful of places such as on the Jerseys of the Arnets Edgeworth Eagles Soccer players and down by the beach on the flags supporting our local Cooks Hill Nippers. If you have a cause that you think we should know about please contact us and let us know how we can help support our local community and our future generations!

July was a delicious time to be at Creative Childcare Hunter St. While our free time was rapidly filling up with some new families coming to our centre, we focused on building off some of the emergent interests of the children and compiled various baking and cooking experiences we could engage in with our chef.
We made both sweet and savoury foods to try; like our coconut slice, homemade bread, blueberry muffins, gingerbread cookies, scones and more. Our children began exploring the concept of sometimes foods and every day foods and how what we eat can have an impact on both specific parts of our bodies, such as our teeth and our overall health.
With some parent input and some donations, we began our first attempt at growing some healthy vegetables in our outdoor vegetable garden area so that we would be able to contribute our own crops into our everyday meals and learning experiences. This is an ongoing project we are very passionate about and one that we are continuing to explore and devise ways of making more sustainable and achievable even for those of us who are unable to keep most plants alive. Keep checking back with us to see how we have progressed with our farm to table goals and how me work to achieve them in the coming months.

We started off our Creative journey with a small group of families who are affectionately referred to as our founding families, we had the pleasure of spending some one-on-one time together while we got settled and let our community know that we were open and ready to invite others to come see what we are all about. As a team in the beginning days we discussed and agreed upon how important we felt our local community is in our approach to care. We wanted to make sure that we could give back as much if not more than we received. We hope to develop into a centre that supports local community as well as receiving support that will impact the children in our care in a positive manner and expand their knowledge and understanding of the community to which they belong. We were overwhelmed with the wonderful turnout for our first "Open Day" where we opened on the weekend to have families and their friends come on by to meet the team and explore the setup we provide in our metropolitan area. We had some local talent come by and provide some entertainment for the children whilst also keeping everyone fed and hydrated with some lunch, snacks and desserts all created in house by our amazing chef and team. It was a busy day that allowed us to put faces to names and connect with those in our local community. A big thank you to everyone that turned up to say hello, we hope you enjoyed you time and will come back again soon.
